Willie “Gene” James Jenkins, 80, of North Charleston, SC passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025. A Celebration of Life service will be held three o’clock p.m., Thursday, November 13, 2025 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel in Denmark, SC. Burial will follow at the Home Place Cemetery, Blackville, SC. Memorial contributions may be given in Willie Gene’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 200 Center Point Circle #100, Columbia, SC 29210.
Born in Barnwell County, SC, he was son of the late Elijah Jenkins, Sr. and Thelma Williams Jenkins. He retired from Collins Construction where he worked most of his life. He was a skilled heavy equipment operator. Willie Gene loved listening to gospel music, as well as, fishing and hunting; he was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Lutricia Varner Jenkins; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony Jenkins and Willie Dell Jenkins, Marcius Varner, William Varner and Wendell Varner all of Charleston, SC; sisters, Peggy (Freddie) Crumiell of Aiken, SC, Betty (Rev. Bennie) Wiggins of Barnwell, SC, Annie Evelyn Washington of Boston, MA, Patricia Ann (Aubrey) Wright of Barnwell, SC; brothers, Elijah Jenkins, Jr. of Barnwell, SC and Terrence Williams of El Paso, TX; sisters-in-law, Patricia Williams of Simpsonville, SC and Maudestine Williams of Allendale, SC; grandchildren, Tony Jenkins, Brandon Jenkins, Akeem Jenkins, Wendell K. Varner and Memphis Varner.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Corine Smalls, Shirley Ann Evans, Thelma Mae Jenkins, and Gail Delores Carter; brothers, John Jenkins, Pernell Williams, Albert Jenkins, Larry Jenkins, Joseph Williams and Hubert Lee Jenkins.
