William "Bill" Strickland Obituary

Funeral services for William Jetter “Bill” Strickland, 83, of Springfield, SC will be held at eleven o’clock a.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2023 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with the Reverend Henry Cooper officiating. Burial will be at three o’clock p.m., Tuesday, October 24th in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC with military honors accorded with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Y. Gantt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude, The Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org). Bill passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023.

Born in Cerro Gordo, NC, he was a son of the late Curtis Green Strickland and Minnie Thelma Mears Strickland and was married to the late Glenda Mincey Strickland. He was a member of Springfield First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the 828 Vietnam Veterans Association. He graduated from the Commanding General Staff College in Ft. Levenworth Kansas with a B.S. Degree and he also attended Chaminade College in Honolulu, HI.

Survivors include his daughter, Thalia Ann (Theron) Powell of Lexington, SC; sons, William Jetter (Barbara) Strickland, Jr. of Springfield, SC and Retired Major Thomas Glenn (Dawn) Strickland of Costa Rico; grandchildren, Ariel Leigh (Michael) Weed, Kenneth Edward Bishop, William Jetter (Jennifer) Strickland, III, Paig Strickland, John Trent Strickland, Zebediah Harlin Strickland, Curtis Wesley (Judy) Strickland, and Timothy Noah Strickland; great grandchildren Connor Weed, Cameron Weed, and Quinn; a brother, Lloyd Gerald Strickland of Cerro Gordo, NC and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister Mary Ann Williamson and two brothers, Curtis Franklin Strickland and Gary Talmage Strickland.
