William Nyland Obituary

Bill Nyland made his last takeoff April 15th, 2021.  William “Bill” Leroy Nyland was born June 19th, 1940 to Leroy W. and Eileen Lammay Nyland.  He lived in Natrona Heights, PA until joining the Air Force with the hope of flying.  While in the Air Force he entered the medical field as a lab technician.  Bill spent 17 years as a lab tech before going to George Washington University to become one of the first physician assistants. He worked for 20 years in emergency medicine and overlapped that with 20 years in orthopedic surgery.  Never giving up his desire to fly, he also became a flight instructor while working as a lab tech, accumulating more than 2500 hours of flight time.  Always active, Bill was into basketball, golf, fishing, crabbing, and crewed on sailboat races in the Chesapeake Bay.  Following his retirement, he moved to South Carolina to be closer to his children. Bill is survived by his 3 children Mark William (Lynn) Nyland, Lisa Marie Nyland, and Michael Avery Nyland, his brother Dennis Henry Nyland of Arnold, PA, his sister Debra Anne Wilcox of Charleston, SC, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
