On October 17th, 2025, Uncle Wilbur peacefully departed this world, his life's journey complete with his daughter (as he lovingly deemed her) Melisa Hallman, by his side after a prolonged illness. He is also survived by a sister, Peggy W. Baxley of Springfield, SC. The atmosphere in Neeses, SC has slightly dimmed, and that little booth at Piggly Wiggly will forever be a repository of memories, where friends gathered to share daily conversations about the world and the projects they would pursue today. Yet, that old, solitary booth will no longer host Uncle Wilbur but will now be ready to pass its memories to a new patron. Because today, he rejoices in the company of his dearly missed wife, Licia Williams, along with his parents, Michael Jefferson Williams and Molly Hutto Williams, his sisters, Everlene Hallman and Mary Magdelene Williams, his brother, TJ Williams, brother-in-law, George Baxley, and nephew, Carlton Hallman.
Wilbur Oneil Williams was born on March 24, 1946.
Uncle Wilbur possessed an incredible work ethic; if something was broken, he was determined to tinker with it as he called it until he fixed it. His passions included tinkering with small engines, gunsmithing, and cultivating seasonal gardens—just a few of the activities he cherished. He earned a degree in industrial maintenance and became a Master Gunsmith.
SSG Wilbur Williams was a distinguished and highly decorated veteran, proudly serving for two decades, including three and a half tours in Vietnam with the Army. He then bravely transitioned to the Navy, where he later retired as a Chief Petty Officer. We all owe an immense debt of gratitude to my hero and countless others like him who sacrificed for our freedom. If you had the pleasure of meeting him, he was certainly someone you wouldn't soon forget easily. His unique sense of humor and candidness left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered, ensuring that memories of him lingered long after.
A service to honor him will take place on October 24th, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Orangeburg County Military Museum, Springfield, SC followed by a military graveside procession at Springfield Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 24th, from 6 to 8 PM at Folk Funeral Home, Williston SC. The family will welcome guests at his home, located at 1167 Begonia Rd, Neeses, SC 29107. Pallbearers: Carlos Torres, Christopher Baxley, Jamie Hallman, Randy Harsey, Dave Elliott and Don Nettles. Honorary pallbearer: Robert Toole.
Special thanks to Patriots Hospice team, Patriots Village, and most of all to Carlos Torres for all of the countless hours he selflessly gave of himself in tending to the needs a man he had never met going far beyond what anyone could have ever asked for doing the things that only the ones that love you the most should be privy to and he did it all without being asked or without asking for anything in return and soon became his best friend. I truly believe this is a military trait because I know Uncle Wilbur would do anything for anyone and never asked for anything in return. "My Hero"
