Waymon Morris Obituary

Waymon Lamar Morris of Hilda, South Carolina died at his home on Friday, February 28, 2020.  Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Berkley Ansel Morris, Sr. and Eloise Delk Dyches Morris.  Waymon was a graduate of Blackville High School and a member of First Baptist Church of Hilda. Mr. Morris was a lifelong resident of Hilda where he and his wife owned and operated a grocery store for several years.

In addition to operating the family owned grocery store, Waymon also worked many years for Owens Corning Fiberglass, Columbia Steel Erectors, and Blackmon Steel Erectors.

He served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.

However, the vocation Mr. Morris enjoyed most was farming.  Much of his life was spent farming family land as well as other areas in Barnwell and Bamberg Counties.  Even in declining health, Waymon’s love for and interest in agriculture never diminished.

Mr. Morris is survived by his loving wife of nearly sixty years, Virginia Ray Morris; a daughter, Wanda, and two grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth and Berkley Gantt Derrick, of Newberry.  He is also survived by a sister, June (Pat) Ray of Hilda, a brother, B.A. (Hazel) Morris, also of Hilda, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Terrell Hayne Dyches and John Andrew Morris and sisters Lavinia Dyches Neal and Carolyn Dyches Fenn.

A Memorial Service will be held at three o’clock p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverend Tony Carter and Pastor Patricia Dangerfield officiating; burial will follow in the Double Pond Baptist Church
