Walter Eugene Brooker, Jr., widower of Niki Granneberg Brooker died peacefully at his home in Denmark, S.C. on December 24, 2018.
Walter was born on November 22, 1959 in Charleston, S.C. He was the son of the late W.E. "Pete" Brooker, Sr. and the late Mildred "Sis" Zeigler Brooker. He was a lifelong resident of Denmark. He graduated from Jefferson Davis Academy and attended Baptist College in Charleston.
Walter was an active member of the Jaycees for many years serving as local President of Denmark Chapter as well as Regional Director for S.C. Jaycees. He was recognized as Outstanding Regional Director in both S.C. and the United States. He was also named a Colonel in S.C. Jaycees Corp. as well as a Jaycee International Senator. He also enjoyed competing in barbeque contests as well as being a judge. He loved Clemson football and Facebook friends. He and his late wife, Niki, loved Christmas and dressing up for Halloween and handing out candy to all the children. He had a good sense of humor and a ready smile. Walter selflessly attended to his sick wife for several years before her death in 2012.
He is survived by his sister, Paula Brooker Guess, two nephews, Connor Daniel Guess and Paul Brooker Guess and many loving cousins.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Johnny Brooks, Ralph Dickerson, Willie Dowling, Dianne Chisolm and Melvin Milhouse for their loving and dedicated service to Walter during his illness.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Bethel Park United Methodist Church of Denmark, S.C. and the visitation will be at 2:00 PM in the social hall. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Terry A. Roof of Bethel Park.
