Verna (Owens) Schumpert Tisdale

Funeral Services for Verna Owens Schumpert Tisdale, 89, formerly of Jackson, SC will be held two o’clock p.m., Sunday, March 21, 2021 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverend Pat Hightower officiating; burial will be in the Williston Cemetery. Due to the current pandemic and the CDC regulations, social distancing and other guidelines will be in place; facemasks are requested. Mrs. Verna passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 in Fort Collins, CO.

Born in Barnwell County, SC, a daughter of the late Leon Harold Owens and Velva Wilson Owens; she married Jessie Darril Schumpert and was the widow of W. O. Tisdale. Mrs. Verna graduated from Old Ellenton High School, was salutatorian of her class and Miss Ellenton. After raising a family of three daughters, she was the Probate Judge of Barnwell County for 9 years having worked 5 years in the Treasurer’s office and Auditor’s Office of Barnwell County. Before moving to Colorado, she was very involved in her church, Jackson First Baptist, the Sandy Acres Garden Club, and Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include her daughters Helen  (Earl) Cason of Jackson; Yvonne (Jim) Chudd of Fort Collins, CO and Kathryn Wessinger of Sturgis, KY; grandchildren Byne Blount, Darril Blount, Shannon Cason and Jean Chudd Chambers; a number of great and great-great grandchildren; her much loved sisters Claudia Stout, June Baylor, and Eula (Pat) Hightower and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Harriett Thomas, a brother Ponce de Leon Owens and granddaughters Wendy Shepherd and Donna Cason.
