Funeral services for Travis “Monkey” Kyzer Chavis, 44, of Norway, SC will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church, Neeses, SC with the Reverend Henry Chavis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Tad Chavis, Ted Davis, Johnny Crouch, Ashton Gleaton, Jamie Preacher, Kevin Rutland and Glenn Wilson. Monkey passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
Born in Orangeburg County he was a son of Johnny Chavis and Angela Berry Tindal. He was a member of Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church, Neeses, SC. Monkey drove a skidder and operated other heavy equipment with Mike’s Logging Company. He loved Clemson, cooking oysters, frying turkeys, and mud bogging. He was an all-around family man who was the best dad and uncle. He was loved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his father, Johnny (Debbie) Chavis of Branchville, SC; his mother, Angela Berry (Graham Lester “Tank”) Tindal, Jr. of Norway, SC; daughter, Kelsey Ann Chavis; and his son, David Kyzer Chavis both of Norway, SC; their mother Crystal Anne Peel of Swansea, SC; his sisters, Brittany Marie and Tiffany Marie Tindal both of Swansea; brothers, Justin Ryan and Dilyan Walker Chavis both of Branchville; maternal grandmother, Patsy Gantt Berry; nieces and nephews, JaNessa, JazzLyn Grace, JaKobe Graham Heyward, Ella Monroe and Harper Grace Corbett and his first grandchild a baby girl is on the way.
He was predeceased in death by his maternal grandfather, John David Berry Jr.; his uncle Randall Keith Berry; paternal grandparents, Kyzer Chavis and Sarah Hutto Chavis.
