Thomas Edward “Eddie” Philbeck II, 81, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Leone Severin Philbeck. Born in Joplin, Missouri, Eddie was the son of the late Thomas Edward Philbeck and Edna Blanche Whisnant Philbeck. He was a longtime member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken, where he met Leone while she was serving as the church organist. His deep Christian faith and love for God guided his life, and he was known and loved for his extraordinary generosity toward family, friends, and even strangers. Eddie received a degree in Electronic Technology from Augusta Technical College, then proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a repairman for aircraft communication and navigational equipment. Following his military service, he worked as an engineer for Westinghouse Air Brake Co, Automated Industrial Electronics Corp, and WAKN/WNEZ radio, before working for ASCO as a multi-craftsman for over 30 years. A master of all things technical and mechanical, Eddie had a passion for excellence in everything he did. He loved sharing his skills with others and is remembered for his profound intelligence, witty sense of humor, and kind heart. Eddie and Leone shared a deep love for dogs and rescued dozens over the years. He also enjoyed collecting and working on vintage and classic cars, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and history.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Bethany Cemetery in Aiken, SC, with Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating.
