Stephen McClure Barbee, 56, gained his angel wings on October 19, 2021. It was a quiet, peaceful passing, which was befitting of him. He was a calm soul and a reflective thinker, always sharing sweet memories from his life. Steve was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed studying the Bible. He loved explaining stories from the Bible.
Born in Dayton, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Marshall William Barbee and Billie Sue Hodge Barbee. Steve grew up in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee and moved to Barnwell, South Carolina in 2013. He graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School in 1983. He is survived by his soulmate, Donna Selvey; a daughter Sommer Marie Barbee; daughter-in-love Jacquelyn (Travis) Moran; sons-in-love Corby (Emily) Selvey and Jeffrey (Valerie) Selvey; grandsons Demetrius, Brayden, Bastion, Timothy, and Weston; granddaughters Alivia, Makenna, Jaelynn, and Cadence.
Steve completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at East Tennessee State University. He worked at various companies designing and developing products. He often spoke of his time working at McKee Foods where he developed assembly lines and had access to unlimited Little Debbie products in the break room. He enjoyed teaching the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) as a professor at Chattanooga State Community College for several years.
Steve enjoyed traveling, fishing, spending time with grandchildren and doing woodworking in his garage. During his past nine years he was able to travel extensively through Europe and across the United States. He loved exploring new places and sharing his stories of traveling.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Fall Creek Falls State Park Recreation Hall in Spencer, Tennessee on November 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
