A Celebration of Life service for Coley Smith “Smitty” Kemmerlin, 60, of Blackville, SC will be held at Eleven O’clock a.m. Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Hilda Southern Methodist Church with the Reverend Ashley Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Smitty passed away at the Lexington Medical Center on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hilda Southern Methodist Church, P.O. Box 69, Hilda, SC 29813.
Born in Orangeburg County, SC he was a son of the late Dewey Samuel Kemmerlin, II and Betty Smith Kemmerlin. He was married to his loving wife Melanie Hutto Kemmerlin for 40 years. Smitty previously worked for Edisto Electric Co-Op as a lineman and then as a Service Technician and was a member of the Hilda Southern Methodist Church. He was a huge South Carolina Gamecock fan who loved being outdoors and loved hunting and fishing. He was a selfless man who was the life of the party and will be missed by all that knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Melanie Kemmerlin of the home; a son, Coley (Taylor) Kemmerlin of Blackville, SC; his grandchildren, Cooper Smith Kemmerlin, Spencer William Kemmerlin and Tateyn Hayes Kemmerlin; two sisters, Eva Keezel and Betty Lois Kemmerlin; a brother-in-law, Gregory O’Neal Hutto and numerous nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dewey Samuel Kemmerlin, III; two sisters, Pam Teasley and Tammy Griffith and a sister-in-law, Sharon Gifford.
