Penelope "Penny" Still Obituary

Penelope “Penny” Ann Douan Still, 88, of Barnwell, South Carolina, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Born in Charleston, Penny attended Chicora High School and was the daughter of George Douan and Edith Youngblood Douan of Charleston. Over the years, she worked as a Southern Bell telephone operator, kindergarten teacher and school bus driver – but she was most proud of her roles as a mother, grannie, great-grannie and homemaker.

Penny was happily married to Tommy Eugene Still of Charleston for 34 years. After his passing, she remained in their home and maintained her independence for another 32 years. She was a devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church in Barnwell for 36 years.

Penny will be remembered for the way she loved her family and cared for others in her life and community. A true prayer warrior, she never missed a morning with the Lord. If she knew you – or even knew of you – you were in her prayers. Penny was a godly woman with a strong and sincere faith, a kind and loving heart and a heavenly focus inspired by God.

She is survived by her three children: Grachel Still Crews (Wade Crews), Melinda Still (Harry Babin) and Melissa Still (Brian Bennett); four grandchildren, Thomas Wade Crews (Bri Crews), Grant Anderson Crews, Tiffany Elaine Silver (Jake Silver), and Matthew Bennett (Karli Bennett); great-grandchildren, Elijah Crews, Grayson Crews, Dante Silver, Issac Silver, Nari Silver, Tyger Bennett and Millie Bennett; her four siblings, Sammie Douan (Marcie), Candy Hall, Joey Douan, and Win Douan (Debbie) and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026 from ten a.m. to eleven a.m. in the Friendship Baptist Church sanctuary, 5801 Friendship Road, Barnwell, SC 29812. A Memorial Service and burial will follow at eleven o’clock a.m. with the Reverends Jim Parnell and Wade Crews officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Penny’s favorite charity, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.T2T.org
