Mike Thomas

G. M. “Mike” Thomas, 65, of Williston, SC passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Memorial contributions may be given to the Barnwell County Animal Shelter, 57 Wall St., Barnwell, SC 29812 or the American Cancer Society, 200 Center Point Circle #100, Columbia, SC 29210. A Celebration of Life Service for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Born in Walterboro, SC, he was a son of the late George Wheeler Thomas and Mildred Robinson Thomas. He was a University of South Carolina graduate with a Chemical Engineering Degree and a retiree after working over 30 years at SRNS. Mike was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan and supporter who attended many football and basketball games and loved to tailgate at the games. Mike was such a Gamecock fan that throughout his household his décor was reflective of the school colors, maroon and black. He enjoyed playing golf, played with several different groups, and also played in foreign countries. Folly Beach was his favorite place to relax and enjoy some peaceful time. He was a devoted husband and father.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Donna Jo Schmitt Thomas; two sons Chris (Nicole) Thomas of Aiken, SC and Devin (Michelle) Lucas of Idaho Falls, ID; a sister Gloria (Joel) Williams of Fairfax, SC; four grandchildren Destiny Thomas, Allie Thomas, Leslie Lucas, and Millie Lucas; a number of nieces and nephews and a special sister-in-law Patty Schmitt (Lloyd) Ward of Williston, SC.
