Melissa Cook Padgett, 62, of Orangeburg, SC passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 4, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at three o’clock p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverend Dean Deer officiating; burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery by the airport. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Memorial contributions may be given in Melissa’s memory to Folk Funeral Home, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853.
Born in Allendale, SC she was a daughter of the late Billy Marvin Cook and Margie Ann Johnson Cook and was married to Kelvin L. Padgett. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed singing karaoke and visiting with her friends and family. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren with her whole heart.
Survivors include her husband of the home, Kelvin L. Padgett; her son, David Paul Sawyer, Jr. of Cordova, SC; her daughter, Jennifer Michelle Sawyer of Lexington, SC; her sister, Ellen Marie Gilbert of Barnwell, SC; a grandson, Noah Joshua Sawyer of Cordova, SC; her Godchildren of Aiken, SC, Kimberly Janine Taylor, Jennifer Leone Taylor, and Christopher George Taylor along with a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John Michael Cook of Beaufort, SC and Billy Steven Cook of Aiken, SC and her grandmother, Ellen Demaris Johnson of Barnwell, SC.
