Euna Maxine Shotts was born on June 26, 1932 in Vina, AL to John Curtis Shotts and Audie Maude Chambers Shotts. She was the fifth of ten children. Growing up on the family farm in Bexar, AL, she developed a love of gardening both flowers and crops. In the late 40’s, she met the love of her life, Ed Cagle. They were later married on May 20, 1950 in Fulton, MS. In April of 1951, their first of three sons, Terry, was born. The family of three relocated to Williston, SC, where her husband, Ed began working at the Savannah River Plant. Within the next few years, they welcomed Ronnie who was born in August of 1954 and Dwayne who was born in July of 1960 to complete their family. Although, much of her life was spent as a homemaker, she spent many years working outside the home at the Sewing Room, Bennie’s Five & Dime, Bud Berma, and Rheem Manufacturing. Maxine, who her grandchildren lovingly called “Nanny,” could often be found in her garden or flower beds, playing basketball with her grandson, playing dolls with her granddaughters, canning various vegetables, visiting with the Sunnifield Crew, shopping at Hamrick’s or serving her church, Rosemary Baptist Church. Like most grandmothers, Nanny loved her grandchildren more than anything. Little did she know that she had room in her heart for seven great-grandchildren. In her last years, she was prevented from working in the yard because of her health, but she enjoyed spending time with her family laughing and reminiscing about the past. She will forever be remembered as a Godly, loving woman who would do anything for anyone.

Survivors include her sons Terry (Letha) Cagle of Lexington, Dwayne (Joanne) Cagle of Williston; grandchildren Nicole (Len) Clamp, Justin (Jessica) Cagle, David (Katherine) Cagle, Ashley (Alex) Morris; great-grandchildren Gage, Grayson, Ethan, Ali, Auron,  Ryley, and Anna Kate; her sisters Neldean Shotts of AL and Jo Shotts Sloan of Williston and a brother “Buster” Shotts of AL.

In addition to her husband, Ed Cagle, she was preceded in death by her son Ronnie Cagle; a sister Sybil Shotts and her brothers Flura Shotts, Flavis Shotts, Hobert Shotts, Burnice Shotts and Bobby Shotts.

The family would like to give special thanks to her caretaker Sybil Hughes for the love and care shown during the last year.
