Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Martin Gibson, 93, of Blackville, SC passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025.
Born in Barnwell County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Miledge Duncan Martin and Meridith Collins Martin and was married to the late Henry Phillip Gibson. She was a faithful member of Double Pond Baptist Church where she often decorated the Social Hall for special events. She retired as a Secretary from Savannah River Site after working there for 37 years. Mrs. Lib enjoyed spending time outdoors and gardening. Family was extremely important to her and she loved every minute that she got to cook and care for them. She loved taking care of others and expected nothing in return. She was a loving sister, mother, Nanny and Aunt Lib.
Survivors include her daughter, Phylis G. Dyches; granddaughters, Rachel A. Dyches of Tampa, FL and Emily D. (Ticer) Wilson of Opelika, AL; a sister, Elaine (Billy) Whetstone; sister-in-law, Janie Bell; nieces and nephews, Steve (Cynthia) Martin, Madonna (Joe) Moore, Jayne (Jim) Johnson, Ken (Chris) Martin, Tracy Blume, Mark (Maryann) Whetstone, Caroline Covington, Julie (Joey) Phillips, David (Anice) Bell, Terry (Lela) Bell, Elaine (Eddie) Platts and a number of great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Henry Phillip Gibson, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Terrell Hayne “Terry” Dyches, Jr.; sister, Betty Blume and brothers, Roy Martin and Frank Martin.
The family will receive friends from two to three p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Double Pond Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at three o’clock p.m., Thursday, March 13th at the church with the Dr. Thomas Terry and Dr. Andy Sandifer officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memory Gardens on Reynolds Rd. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jay Abbott, David Bell, Ken Martin, Joe Moore, Kitt Moore, and Mark Whetstone.
Memorial contributions may be sent in Mrs. Lib’s memory to Double Pond Baptist Church, 357 Double Pond Rd., Blackville, SC 29817.
