Mary Evelyn Cook Dyches, 84, of Barnwell, SC passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at four o’clock p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Ashleigh Baptist Church, 14315 Hwy. 3, Blackville, SC with the Reverend Joe Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Born in Bamberg County, she was a daughter of the late Murry R. Cook and Georgia Bendell Priester Cook and was married to the late Jimmy Dyches. She was a member of Ashleigh Baptist Church and previously worked as a seamstress at K and M and Skyline Sewing Rooms. She was an avid cook and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Rodney (Jennifer) Dyches of Blackville, SC, Angie (David) Martin of Hephzibah, GA, and Tami Gates of Orangepark, FL who she thought of as a daughter; her grandchildren, Zack (Sarah) Chavis and Noah (Destiny) Chavis all of Barnwell, SC and Joshua Dyches of Blackville, SC; great grandchildren, Leann, Abel, and Mason Chavis; a sister, Jacquline Manuel of Barnwell, SC; sister-in-law, Betty Cook of Barnwell, SC along with numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
In addition to her husband, Jimmy Dyches, she was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine Benton and her brother, Franklin Cook.
