Marion Webb Obituary

Daddy (The Carolina River Man) set sail for new eternal adventures August 30, 2022.

Marion E. Webb, son of the late Rev. M.B. Webb and Winnie Fallaw Webb, was born January 8, 1934, in Barnwell, SC.

He was a Ship Captain, White Water Paddler, Teacher, Coach, Councilor, School Principal, School Superintendent, Philosopher, Surveyor, Carpenter, Artist and the list goes on.  Daddy never cared about money but was blessed with the ability to enjoy life regardless of the conditions or finances.  He was a member of Ridge Spring Baptist Church where his father served as minister for many years.

In May of 1981, 41 years ago, misfortune entered his life’s path. While returning from the Chattooga River, as he described being high on life having just run white waters and maybe going a little fast for the mountain curve, he lost control of the motorcycle challenging the mountains and lost.  Paralyzed from the neck for 41 years Daddy never past blame or sat around saying why me.  He enjoyed his life to the fullest and was a testament to everyone that life’s not about having everything but demonstrating how we should always enjoy everything we have.

Books are written and movies made about people with much less interesting lives.  Hopefully as time passes, my brother Jody and I, along with family and friends with share some of these incredible stories and adventures for all to read.  For now, all of Daddy’s family and friends bid a very special farewell to one of the most remarkable men God ever made.  Daddy would often talk in Nautical terms so Jody and I say, “Farewell Captain!”

Survivors include sons Marion E “Eddie” (Mildred Cone) Webb, Jr. of Ridge Spring, William Joseph “Jody” Webb of Williston; grandchildren Michelle Webb, Cody (Hayley) Webb, Mae-Ann Webb, Coby Webb, and Torii Webb; great grandchildren Marquel, Mauri and Josie Layne.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mae Ruth Handberry Webb, son Mauri Eugene Webb, granddaughter Marla Webb and sister Gwendolyn DuBose.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held three o’clock p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Ridge Spring Baptist Church, 108 Church Circle, Ridge Spring, S.C. 29129.
