Margie (Carrin) Self

A Celebration of Life Service for Margie Lena Carrin Self, 96, of Denmark, SC will be held at eleven-thirty a.m., Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the Denmark First Baptist Church with the Reverend Fabian Portunato officiating. Interment will be in the Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens, 850 N. St. Johns Bluff Rd., Jacksonville, FL at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Mrs. Margie to Denmark First Baptist Church, c/o Media Technology for Shut-ins, P.O. Box 325, Denmark, SC 29042. Mrs. Margie passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024 at her home.

Born in Salem, FL, she was a daughter of the late John Baptist Carrin and Macie Bell Mathis Carrin and was married to the late Billy Whelchel Self, Sr. She was a member of Denmark First Baptist Church and retired from BellSouth/AT & T  Telephone Company where she was a supervisor after working for 35 years. She also worked for 18 years at the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Margie loved to listen to Bill Gaither CDs and spent many hours sewing lap blankets for shut-ins and nursing homes. She also drove and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.

Survivors include a son, Billy Whelchel (Cathy) Self, Jr. of Denmark, SC; daughters, Diane (Self) Raymond Dunn of Molena, GA and Karen Self (Gil) Dilts of Rimrock, AZ; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; 12 great, great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Prentice.
