Lucille (Hartzog) Bowen

Lucille Maxine Hartzog Bowen, 75, of Barnwell, SC passed away at home on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock p.m., Friday, May 1, 2026 at the Hope Community Church of God, 785 Main St., Barnwell, SC 29812 with Reverends Dillon Morgan and Irene Derrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Double Pond Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of her friends and caregivers as well as, the nurses and staff with Amedysis Hospice for their love and care shown to Lucille.

Born in Blackville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Wilbur Hartzog and Mary Elizabeth Baxley Hartzog. She was a member of Hope Community Church of God and was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. Lucille loved to help others and enjoyed her time as a self-employed caregiver. She loved watching and feeding the birds, she also enjoyed tending to her flower garden and crocheting. Her favorite time was spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and her great granddaughter, Summer.

Survivors include her daughter, Cecelia Bowen of Barnwell, SC; her son, Jerry (Becky) Bowen of Barnwell, SC; two grandsons, Allen Bowen of Aiken, SC and Dylan (Autumn) Bowen of Trenton, SC; her great granddaughter, Summer Bowen; special family, Sabrina Mosier, Joseph Mosier and Carl Mosier along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda H. Williams Scholl and her brothers, Wilbur Hartzog, Allen Hartzog and Roy Hartzog.
