LaVerne (Willis) Dobson

Laverne Dobson, 94 of Barnwell, SC passed away at home on Thursday, March 12, 2026. She was born February 26, 1932 in Big Thicket, Texas to the late Hamp Willis and Abbie Burrell Willis and was married to the late Guy R. Dobson for 65 years.

She was all you could ask for as a mother. She always made time for her family. She especially loved her church family and enjoyed serving at Calvary Baptist Church especially during Vacation Bible School. In between all that, she made time to watch the Atlanta Braves and South Carolina Woman’s Basketball. For many years she was an avid golfer, winning the Woman’s Club Championship at Sweetwater Country Club.

Survivors include her children, Randy (Sherry) Dobson, Paul (Verna) Dobson and Abby (Jim) Sherrer; her grandson, Nick (Caroline Moore) Dobson and her great-grandson, Colby Riggs Dobson.

In addition to her husband Guy Dobson, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverends Dean Deer and Dale Hutto officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Sunday in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow in the Barnwell Memorial Cemetery (by the airport).
