Joyce Loretha Payette, 96, of Aiken, SC entered her eternal rest on February 19, 2025. After her 74 year of marriage to her devoted husband, Pete W. Payette of Aiken, SC.
Left to also cherish her memories is her huge family including her sister, Sue Wyche of Texas, her four children, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Joyce was born on November 11, 1928 to the late Henry and Loretha Tscheope of Texas. Her life was a remarkable one, including surviving stage IV cancer in the 1960’s. Her life was full encompassing many roles including a nursing career, as a “military wife” for 22 years traveling overseas and across the United States, and a role as a loving mother to her three daughters, Kay Watson, Karen Covington, Mary (Denny) Weeks all of SC and a son, Peter H. (Dee) Payette of NC.
Her happiest role was that of babysitter to all of her “grands”. Additionally, she loved the outdoors, spending all day gardening and practiced her faith, which included teaching Sunday School at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. In general, she was a joy to all, through her spirited sense of humor and love of life.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dr. Randy Watson.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Payette will be held at two o’clock p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with Dr. David Richardson and Pastor Toby Rowell officiating. The family will receive friends on hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Matt Covington, Kelly Watson, Henry Morgan, Landon Payette, Gabe Payette and Joe Covington.
