The family of Joseph E. “Buster” Counts, Sr., 91, of Springfield, SC, has requested that friends join them for a graveside funeral service at 12 o’clock noon, Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Springfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be given to Emanuel Community Church, 912 Springfield Rd. Springfield SC 29146. A family service will be held at eleven o’clock a.m., Saturday, March 21st at Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverends Johnny Baker, Adam Hensley and Timmy Barr officiating. Buster passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
Born in Springfield, SC, he was the son of the late Luther Counts and Louise Fanning Counts and was the widower of Eleanor Hallman Counts. Buster attended Emanuel Community Church in Springfield; he was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sang with the original Pleasant Hill Hi Cotton singers. He was a member and recipient of his 60 year certificate in 2018 at Cedar Masonic Lodge # 184, Wagener, SC; he was a lifetime member having served in the various Masonic Lodges. He was the service manager for the John Deere dealership in Springfield for 27 years and was a certified mechanic for John Deere after attending John Deere Mechanic School in Atlanta, GA. He owned and operated Counts Tractor Repair in Springfield where he repaired many tractors throughout the years. Buster served as a Springfield Town Councilman and as a fireman. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Okinawa, Japan. Buster loved the Lord and witnessed every chance he got. He also loved his family including his church family. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Survivors include his daughter Pamela “Pam” Carroll of Williston; a son Joseph E. ”Joey” Counts, Jr. of Springfield; grandchildren Kerry (Kevin) Watson, George (Cecily) Carroll, Jr., Jennifer Elma Counts, Joseph Zachery Counts; 15 great grandchildren; a sister Nancy Carol Counts Stroman of Four Hole Swamp near Orangeburg, SC and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Katherine Counts Corbett.
The family would like to thank all of the care-givers who have shown so much care, kindness, love and compassion to Buster.
