A Graveside Service for John Leonard Owens, Jr. will be held at two o’clock p.m., Sunday September 15, 2024, at the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery by the airport with the Reverend Charles Morris officiating. John passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Born in Florence, SC he was a son of the late John Leonard Owens, Sr. and Vera Duke Owens, and was married to the late Darlene Owens for almost 40 years. John was U.S. Army veteran. He was a retail truck driver for many years having driven over 5 million miles hauling merchandise for Hobby Lobby and for VF Wrangler Jeans Wear. John was a selfless and giving man and a provider. He cared deeply for others and was a man who wouldn’t rest if he knew you had a problem.
Survivors include his son, Tony (Retha) Owens of Barnwell; grandchildren, Justin Chavis, Kendra Chavis, Brandon (Brooke) Chavis, Keali Chavis, Tony Leonard Owens, Jr. (fiancé Shelby Zimmerman), Blake Owens (fiancé Hallie York) and Brittany Cannon; great-grandchildren, McKenley Chavis, C.J. Miller, Tessa Chavis, Carter Owens, Jayce Klebe, Harper Klebe and Carsyn Owens; a brother Jerry (Betty) Owens and a number of nieces nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene Owens; and his daughter, Tessa Owens Chavis.
