Joan (O'Gorman) Malone

Joan O’Gorman Malone, 93, of Cayce, SC passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026. A Graveside funeral service will be held at two o’clock p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026 at the O’Gorman Family Plot in the Blackville Cemetery, 392 Hampton Ave., Blackville, SC 29817 with Father Rhett Williams officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday after the service at the cemetery.  

The family has asked that memorials be made to Meals on Wheels, Lexington County, 125 Parker St., Lexington, SC 29072.

Born in Barnwell County, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Farrell O’Gorman and Genevieve Shaw O’Gorman and was the widow of Bernard Thomas Malone having been married for 49 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia, SC and was also a member of the Women’s Club of Cayce. She retired from the South Carolina State Museum, following a long and fulfilling office career with Dooley & Company. She brought joy to the workplace by celebrating staff birthdays and special events with her homemade cakes. Throughout her working life, she took great pride in her responsibilities and was known for her dependability, kindness, and quiet dedication.

Joan most enjoyed camping, swimming, and shopping with her family. You could always find her with a smile on her face and a Hershey bar close by.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Genevieve “Gena” and Kevin Atkinson of Lexington; grandchildren, Kaitlin (Quinn) Weathers of Columbia and Allison Atkinson of Lexington, SC along with a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen O’Gorman Reynolds; her brothers, John Farrell “Jack” O’Gorman, Jr., Thomas Joseph “Tommy” O’Gorman and Louis James “Louie” O’Gorman.
