Born in Newberry, SC, she was a daughter of the late Duward Belmont Hartzog and Mildred Jeanette Bushardt Hartzog. She attended Newberry College and was a member of the Williston First Baptist Church. Jo became a widow at a very young age after her husband Jerry Zorn lost his life serving his country. She later married Thomas “Tom” Pinckney Scott (also deceased) and raised two sons on their family farm. Jo relocated to Simpsonville several years ago to be closer to her children and grandchildren, as they were all very special to her. She passed on her passion and enthusiasm for Clemson University to her family that is now two generations deep, five degrees later with three more in pursuit.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Todd (Jennifer) Scott and William Bradford “Brad” (Dawn) Scott all of Simpsonville, SC; her grandchildren who she loved dearly, Summer, Harrison, Taylor and Russell Scott; a brother, Caleb (Jimmie Lee) Hartzog of Bamberg along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, D. B. Hartzog, Jr. of Bamberg, SC.
