James Richard “Jim” Harelson, 74, of Blackville, SC passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at two o’clock p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Barnwell First Baptist Church with Dr. T. Bart Kelley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Barnwell First Baptist Church, Children’s Ministry, 161 Allen St., Barnwell, SC 29812 or to the Gideon International, P.O. Box 86, Williston, SC 29853.
Born in Sumter, SC, he was a son of the late Walter E. Harelson and Mary Clark Harelson. He was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church and was previously the Vice-President at Ebert Sportswear in Columbia, SC. He was a handyman who could repair most anything and was an avid wood worker. He spent many hours in his wood working shop and he loved his tools. Jim enjoyed eating out and spending time with Maggie and Daisy, his dogs who will miss him deeply. He enjoyed watching T.V. spending time with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Wanda Gail Black Harelson of Blackville, SC; his daughter, Nicole (Eric) Phillips of Waxhaw, NC and their children, Evan, Georgia, and Becca Phillips and his daughter, Brantley (Richard) Freeman of Lexington, SC and their children, Katherine Grace, Annalise, Emma and Sophie Freeman; sister-in-law, Katie (Tim) McCormick of Blackville, SC; nieces, Ashley Harelson, Heather (Michael) Peters, Katelyn (Ryan) Delk, Tori (B) Huggins; a nephew, Kevin (Jill) McCormick and great nieces, nephews, and cousins that he dearly loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Harelson.
