Jason Widener Obituary

Jason Allen Widener was rushed to an Emergency Department by his friend, Grahame, on Wednesday February 12, 2025. A helicopter took him to an ungraded facility near Adapt Health Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC and finally by nighttime on the 12th he was again moved by helicopter to the main hospital into their intensive care unit. There he was placed on the ECMO machine and diagnosed with severe influenza and pneumonia. He lay in a coma suspended between the here and now and eternity until February 25th when he passed away. Many family members and friends visited to hold his hand and whisper words of encouragement and love.

Jason had lived and worked in Charlotte for about seven years. He purchased a home there and was recently employed for the past 7 years in Computer Services for Bank of America, Charlotte, NC.

Jason was born at the original Aiken County Hospital to Jimmy Allen and Kathy Gantt Widener at 5;00 A.M. on Wednesday July 18th, 1973. He was baptized in the Christian faith in 1985 at First Baptist Church of Windsor.

Jason was a very outgoing and lovable person. He had many friends, most since high school. He was very artistic, writing songs accompanied by his guitar. He was also a talented artist and was very interested in foreign languages. He spoke conversational Greek, German, and Spanish.

He graduated from South Aiken High School in 1991 and attended USC Aiken receiving a double major, Computer Science and English Literature.

Jason studied abroad in Breganz, Austria in 1994 and 1996. There he made a friend for life, Wolfgang Winkler.

Jason had many friends because he was a friend. A kind person who thrived on laughter. Any person who knew him couldn't help but fall in love with his personality and his jokes. Two of his closest friends in Charlotte, Grahame and Richard, spent many a pleasant evening laughing, joking, and cooking out on his back deck.

When he passed away, a light went out in many hearts both in Charlotte N.C. and Aiken S.C. Jason was an organ donor and even though his family and friends did not get the miracle they prayed unceasingly for Jason, others did get that miracle because of him.

His closest friend for over thirty years was Tiernan McMillan. They were not blood brothers, but they were brothers of the heart.

Jason is survived by his Mom and Dad, Jimmy and Kathy Widener of Montmorenci, his grandmother Peggy R. Widener, his sister Melanie Widener (Troy) Brant and his brother Tristen Allen Widener. Also, a niece Emily Garrison, a nephew Jacob Brant of Ulmer, SC and a grand nephew, Leo. Also left to mourn his passing are many cousins, aunts and uncles. Jason was predeceased by his grandfathers, J.A. Widener and Robert Gantt and his grandmother Jeanette Gantt and his sister Lori Paige Widener.

Jason lived a fulfilling life by all measures and left behind wonderful memories for numerous family and friends. He is now in God's hands!
