Janice Wakefield Obituary

Janice Martin Wakefield, Janice passed away peacefully on October 13, 2020 at her sister’s home in North Augusta where she was surrounded with love and attention. Janice was born in Greenville, SC on May 21, 1936 to William Benton Martin and Macie Elma Love.  In 1950, she moved with her family to Williston, SC, where she met the love of her life, Roland.

Janice graduated from Williston-Elko High in 1954.  After graduation, Janice went to work at the Savannah River Plant and retired from E. I. DuPont after 37 years of service. She absolutely loved her work and fellowship with her co-workers.

She loved her hometown of Williston and loved to socialize each day at Meeting on Main restaurant where she had her own table and welcomed everyone to sit. Janice was well known for her generosity to others. She had a servant’s heart and was always concerned for the well-being of others. She was a member of the Williston Presbyterian Church.

Janice served on many committees, but she was most proud of serving on the board of the Williston Museum which was founded by her late sister Billie Jean Sprawls.
She is survived by her sisters Miriam Mills of Columbia and Donna Farr (Bill) of North Augusta, SC; nephew Dan Holloway (Holly) and nieces Ashley Harris (Adam) of Augusta, GA, Ginger Subers (Jay), Kimberly Nichols (Dan), and Susan Callahan (Derrick) and twelve grand nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Roland of 55 years, her father William Benton Martin, her mother Macie Love Martin and her sister Billie Jean Sprawls.

The family would like to thank her caregivers Diane Johnson, Bobbie Normand and Evelyn McLaddie. Services will be Graveside at the Williston Cemetery 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 with the Rev. Dr. Beth Yarborough officiating.
