Janice Medlin Fehrenbach

Janice Medlin Fehrenbach, 80, of Aiken, SC passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 after several years of illness and orthopedic problems. She was born and raised in Anderson, SC along with her two brothers, Jimmy and Edward. Jimmy still lives in Anderson, SC and their brother, Edward is deceased. Their mother died of breast cancer at about age 50, and Janice had breast cancer at a later age and was a breast cancer survivor.

Janice’s father, her brothers and uncles were all great mechanics and lived locally so she picked-up many of their skills, and when she applied for a job as a medical lab technician at Anderson Hospital, she was promoted rapidly to fixing equipment, as well as being able to operate the equipment.  Janice received an associate’s degree while at Anderson and while there her husband, Harold Potter, a state trooper, was transferred to Aiken, SC. At that time, a huge hospital organization bought the old Aiken Hospital and was building the new Aiken Hospital. They were looking for new medical equipment and needed updated people on modern equipment since the old Aiken Hospital had old equipment. Janice was hired immediately and she started on a BS in Labor Management at Southern Illinois University at Fort Gordon which held classes on Saturdays in the basement of Eisenhower Hospital. Janice and Ray met at the Odell Weeks Recreation Center in Aiken, SC after her very active life, building and starting up the new hospital with the new equipment in it, Janice and Ray agreed to get some rest so she could get some rest left the hospital. After a few months of rest, she went to work as a Medical Laboratory Technician at SRP After her retirement, she enjoyed yearly meetings with previous co-workers in downtown Aiken.

Janice had three children namely 3 sons, David Carleton from Aiken, SC, Eric Potter of Pasadena, CA and Bryan Potter of Denver, CO. Ray Fehrenbach had 3 children, Ray, Jr., a son, of Lake Lanier, GA and two daughters, Ann Badke of Augusta, GA and Janet Robinson of North Augusta; three of Janice’s and Ray’s grandchildren are registered nurses and two of the grandsons are in medical school.
