In 1943 Jimmy was born in Charleston South Carolina to his father the late James R. Flanigan Sr. and mother the late Fluorine Flanigan, where he grew up until the age of 7, in 1951 his family moved to Williston, SC. Jimmy had 2 sisters, the late Trudy Flanigan Livingston and Bonnie Flanigan Holly (Sam) of Monroe, North Carolina
Before graduating from Williston Elko High School in 1961 Jimmy became one of the first Eagle Scouts in Williston SC. He played football at Williston Elko high school where he sustained a career ending knee injury and then became a great musician playing the drums under the direction of Dick Lindell. Music became his passion as he was to go on to play in several local bands. Jimmy would follow in his father‘s footsteps after graduation and he became a sheet-metal worker with local 399 out of Charleston SC.
In 1963 he married the love of his life and was married for 47yrs to the late Jeanette Ridgeway Flanigan from Barnwell SC who passed away in 2010 and started a family in 1966 with the birth of their first son Bryan (Mindy) who lives in Lexington SC. They would later have their second son Blake in 1969 who lives in Cocoa Beach Florida with his wife Amy and their third son Bruce from Maurepas, La in 1971. In 1972 he moved his family to Poughkeepsie New York where he worked for three years and then return back to Barnwell in 1975 where he started a 22 year career with EI DuPont at the Savannah River Site. After an early retirement he became a consultant and worked all over the country including Alaska, Idaho, Chicago IL and Charlotte NC, after finally retiring he moved back to his hometown, Williston, South Carolina.
Jimmy loved traveling and anything outdoors, coaching, fishing, hunting and going to Gamecock football games with family along with watching his dog Dixie chasing squirrels. Jimmy had 5 loving grandchildren, Bryce (Chelsea) and Brandon Flanigan (Bryan and Mindy), Sydney (Tyler), Ethan and Dylan (Blake and Amy) along with four beautiful, great grandchildren Sully, Bowen, Marleigh and Charlotte.
We would like to thank Mr. Jerry Hair his neighbor for always being there every time we needed him along with special caregivers, Ms. Myrtle Sapp and Susan Burdette and the entire staff of Savannah River Nursing.
Funeral services will be held at twelve o’clock, noon Thursday, May 21, 2026, in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverend Charles Morris and Brad Byrum officiating. Burial with masonic rites will follow at the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery (by the airport). The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Williston on Thursday.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Bryce Flanigan, Brandon Flanigan, Ethan Flanigan, Mark Livingston, Jay Delk, and Billy Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Hair, Ronnie Inabinet, David Barnette, Norman Brooks and Dick Lindell.
