Funeral services for James A. “Jimmy” Babb, 84, of Barnwell, SC will be held at two o’clock p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Seven Pines Baptist Church with the Reverend Mark Watford officiating. Burial will be in the Barnwell Memory Gardens on Reynolds Rd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday and other times at the home. Memorial contributions in memory of Jimmy may be given to Connie Maxwell Ministries, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29646 or Seven Pines Baptist Church, 22 Seven Pines Rd., Barnwell, SC 29812. Jimmy passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021.
Born in Greenwood County, SC, he was a son of the late Wade Floyd Babb and Lila Belle Watts Babb. He was a life-long resident of Barnwell County, was a graduate of Barnwell High School and was a member of Seven Pines Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including deacon and was a dedicated choir member. He retired from SRNS (Westinghouse) after 42 years of service. After his retirement, he continued to use his skills as a draftsman to draw house plans and drafted the plans for the Fellowship Hall at Seven Pines Baptist Church. Jimmy served as a volunteer with the Williston Rescue Squad for many years. He served in the Army National Guard where he was a sharp shooter and chef; he retired as an E-7 after serving in the National Guard for 20 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Jo Barnhart Babb; a daughter Leigh Babb (Richard) Towne; grandson Richard Blake Towne; granddaughter Priscilla Towne (Grant) Summerford; great grandson Richard Mason Towne; a sister Claire Babb Creech and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a great granddaughter Olivia Ruth Towne; a granddaughter-in-law Taylor Marie Towne; brothers Floyd Pinckney “Buddy” Babb and William Eugene “Billy” Babb.
