Helen (Jernigan) Thompson

Helen Jernigan Thompson, 97, of Williston, SC passed away on January 14, 2023.  Born in St. George, SC, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Bell Jernigan and was married to the late Richard Cooper Thompson.  Helen was a homemaker and a member of Edisto Baptist Church where she loved to cook and help with many church dinners; she also worked at a florist, as teacher’s aide, and as a substitute teacher. Helen’s desire was to be donated to Medical College of Georgia for anatomical research.  No formal services are planned.

Survivors include a son in law, Joe Gunnells of Williston, SC; granddaughter, Helen Kymberly “Kym” Odom (Phil) Gainey of Williston, SC; granddaughter-in-law, Tiffany Brown Odom of Bamberg, SC; great-granddaughters, Summer Gainey and Jenna (Kyle) Mitchell; great-great grandchildren, Kaden Buckland, Xander Phillip Gainey, and Canyon Mitchell, and a number of nieces and nephews. 

    She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheryl Thompson Odom Gunnells; a grandson, Jimmie Anthony “Tony” Odom; great grandson, Seth Phillip Gainey, and sisters, Tony (Bob) Hartzog, and Margaret (Floyd) Rumph.
