Funeral services for Helen Martin Smith, 76, of Blackville, SC will be held at three-thirty p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Healing Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Jeffrey Ray and Dr. Thomas Terry officiating; burial will follow in the Blackville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from two to three-thirty p.m. on Sunday at the church. Mrs. Helen passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
Born in Blackville, SC, she was a daughter of the late George Martin and Kittie Hutto Martin and was married to the late Thomas R. (Tommy) Smith. She was a graduate of Blackville High School, attended Spartanburg Methodist College and received a business certificate from Palmer Business College. Helen was a former member of Blackville First Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir, a former Youth Sunday School teacher and served on various committees. She was a member of Healing Springs Baptist Church and served on various committees. Helen formerly worked at Holland Hitch Company and was a bookkeeper at Daniels’ Pharmacy in Blackville for a number of years.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Thomas Eric (Krissie) Smith of Aiken; her granddaughter and the apple-of-her-eye Ansley Smith; sister-in-law Deborah S. Gantt; brothers-in-law Lanny (Susie) Smith and Sandy (Cheryl) Smith; nieces and nephews Kimberly McAlister (Eva Nance), Lynn (Paul) Turner, Frank (Karen) Smith, Heath (Jenifer) Gantt, Dustin Smith and a number of great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Grace Martin McAlister and her nephews Billy and Michael McAlister.
