Ms. Helen Ashba, 92 of Williston, SC has passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
Born in Morehead City, NC, she was a daughter of the late, James Jessie Griffin and Lillie Mae Taylor Griffin and was married to the late Robert “Bob” Leon Ashba.
“Ms. Helen” as she was known to everyone who came through the Winfield Heights Baptist Church and Christian School office where she faithfully served the church and the school for over 30 years. She was the school secretary, a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir for many years. She was the first person you met inside the door of the school or spoke to over the phone. She always had time to listen to a church member in need, the parents who came to pay their child’s tuition, and she had even more time to tell them stories about her life. While we constantly kept her busy the truth is she was the one who kept all of us going. Life at Winfield Heights will never be the same without her smiling presence but we rejoice and find comfort that she is now in someone else’s presence – her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We give Him all praise and glory for letting His light shine through Ms. Helen.
Survivors include her daughters, Marie Annette Sweat and Donna Ashba Mole (Don Mole) both of Williston, SC and Tammy Ashba (Barry Crim) of Swansea, SC; daughters-in-law, Regina Ashba of Barnwell, SC and Candy Ashba-Smith of Summerton, SC who she still loved as her own; her grandchildren, Bobby Ashba (McKenzie), Hannah Ashba, Ellie Fail (Jeremy), Maggie Ashba, Angie Overton (Russell), Robby Sweat, Amanda Smith, Benjamin Mole (Erica Thompson), April Liferidge (Devin), Samantha Baker (Andrew), Courtney Still (Erik) and Cody Creech along with numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren that she loved dearly.
In addition to her husband, Bob Ashba, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanna Ashba; two sons, Robert “Bob” Allen Ashba and James “Bo” Andrew Ashba; a grandson, Brad Sweat and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at eleven o’clock a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Winfield Heights Baptist Church with the Reverend Jamie Wootten officiating. Burial will follow in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be given in Ms. Helen’s memory to Winfield Heights Christian School, 315 Chester St., Williston, SC 29853.
