Hazel Louise (Still) Schafer

Funeral services for Hazel Louise Schafer, 81, of Olar, SC will be held at eleven o’clock a.m., Thursday, October 5, 2023 in the Hilda Southern United Methodist Church with the Pastor Kenny Marr and Reverend Ashley Howell officiating; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be given in Hazel’s honor to the Hilda Southern United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 69, Hilda, SC 29813. Hazel passed away at home on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Born in Barnwell County, SC, she was a daughter of the late James Guy Still and Hattie Louise Ward Still. She was a 1963 graduate of Denmark-Olar High School and was a member of the Hilda Southern United Methodist Church; she previously worked as a Southern Bell Telephone operator having worked in South Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio. She was a great momma who loved her family and a faithful friend who took care of Mrs. Adrianne Hartzog and Mrs. Alice Wise until their passing. She loved helping and visiting with Mary Rivers, another great friend. She cleaned the church and served in many other capacities over the years and loved spending time outdoors.

Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn (James) Lee of Waycross, GA, and Roxanne (Kenny) Marr of Watkinsville, GA; two sons, Donnie (Betty) Schafer and Ronnie (Betsy) Schafer all of Waycross, GA; an honorary sister, Daisy Hayes of Olar, SC; grandchildren, Skyler (Leana), Hannah (Jake), Lorelei, Amanda (Josh), Sarah, Stephen (Katelyn), Gabriel, Grace, Josiah, Natalie, Judah, Levi, Lindon, Christina, Christopher, and Nathan; 8 great grandchildren and two more on  the way; brothers, William Henry Still of Olar, SC and James H. “Tater” Still of Williston, SC,  along with a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Still Godbold and Florence Redmond; infant sisters, Dora Lee Still and Flora Lee Hutto; and a brother, David Still.
