Harvey Henry Jackson, 80, of Springfield passed away at his home on March 15, 2025.
Harvey was born in Livingston, South Carolina, on November 25, 1944, the son of the late Sallie Williams Jackson. At the age of seventeen, Harvey enlisted in the United States Air Force, which provided him with opportunities not otherwise available to him as one of eight children of a single mother in rural Orangeburg County. Through dedicated service in the Air Force, Harvey gained the experience of travel and exposure to the outside world, including Germany, Hawaii, and Japan. During his military service, he demonstrated the strong work ethic and moral stability learned from days of toil on the lands surrounding the home where he was raised. Also during his military service he met the love of his life, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage, Sheila Bredehoft Jackson, originally of Meadow Grove, Nebraska. They were married near the base in Tacoma, Washington.
After marriage, Harvey brought Sheila back to South Carolina, where they established their lives and raised their family. Beginning with meager hourly wage jobs, and progressing to the position of supervisor during his thirty-one year career at Dixie-Narco in Williston, Harvey proved that through hard work and dedication, one can improve the circumstances of their beginning and provide the means to raise and support a healthy and thriving family.
Harvey will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, reliability, and dedication to his friends and family. In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his daughters Donna Vincent (Doug) of Williston, and Wanda Johnson (William) of Manning, and grandchildren Hunter Vincent of Cordova, Makayla and Ava Vincent of Williston, Dinah Davis Lee (Derek) of Sumter, and Porter Johnson of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a great-grandson, Bryson Lee. He is also survived by a nephew, Jeff Eidson (Cheryl) of Springfield, and nieces, Debbie McCollum, and Delaine Baker (Stanley) of North, and Elaine McCollum (Ron) of Gaston, and a brother-in law, Steve Bredehoft (Jean) of Meadow Grove, Nebraska, and a sister-in-law, Rebecca Sturdivant of Beech Island, and their families.
Harvey was predeceased by his mother, and seven siblings: Lorese Bowles, Frank Jackson, Robert Jackson, Emmette Jackson, Mary Eidson, Martha Hargrove, and infant brother Harmon Jackson.
A funeral service will be held at Folk Funeral Home in Williston at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025, officiated by Rev. Rodney Bodiford, with interment at the Williston Cemetery following. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and other times at the home.
Jeff Eidson, Stanley Baker, Jamie Hutson, Greg Williams, Wayne Ingram, and Allen Hutson will serve as pallbearers. Eugene Abner, Jimmy Bradley, and Wallace James will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would be honored by memorials to a charity of choice.
