Memorial contributions may be given to the Blackville Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 365, Blackville, SC 29817. Grace passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021.
Born in Blackville SC, Grace was a daughter of the late George P. Martin and Kittie Hutto Martin. She lived most of her life in Blackville; graduating from Blackville High School, attending Blackville First Baptist Church, and raising her family there. After retiring in 1998 from the SC Department of Education’s Office of Instructional Technology in Blackville, Grace continued working for many years on a part-time basis for Barnwell County’s Office of Adult Education. She moved to Barnwell and lived there for several years before relocating to Columbia in 2014 and residing at Carolina Gardens at Kathwood Senior Living. Grace’s family is very thankful for the loving care she received from her caregivers at Carolina Gardens, especially during the last weeks of her life.
Grace cherished her family; she was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by daughter, Kimberly McAlister (and Eva Nance) of Columbia; grandson, Derrick (and Dominique) McAlister, great-grandchildren, Billie and Miles McAlister, all of Greenville; sister Helen Smith, nephew Eric (and Krissie) Smith and great niece, Ansley Smith, all of Aiken; and daughter-in-law, Debra McAlister of Orangeburg. Grace was preceded in death by her sons Michael in 1983 and Billy in 2018.
Grace’s deep, abiding faith in God sustained her through her eighty-six years on earth and gave her complete assurance of life eternal with Him.
