Glen L. Schmitt, Jr. of Lake Wales, FL passed away from COVID on February 15, 2021 in Casper, WY. A Private Family Celebration of Life service will be held at a later time. Memorials may be given to the Barnwell County Animal Shelter Foundation, P.O. Box 1009, Barnwell, SC 29812.
Born in Barnwell, SC, he was the son of the late Glen L. Schmitt, Sr. and Diane L. Hensley. He grew up in Williston, SC and his family and friends affectionately called him “Scooter.” He attended Williston-Elko High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waverly, FL. He was a retired professional truck driver and was married one year to his loving wife, Marcia. He loved his family and his dogs, enjoyed music and dancing with his wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren, fishing, reading, fast cars, attending races, and building model cars. Scooter also enjoyed traveling and had visited 49 states.
Survivors include his wife Marcia F. Schmitt of Lake Wales, FL; sons Glen L. (Jamie) Schmitt, III of North Augusta, SC, Donald E. Schmitt of Lakeland, FL, Christopher M. (Stephany) Schmitt of Winter Haven, FL, Loren T. (Cyndi) Schmitt of Tavares, FL; step-daughter Heather R. (Dustin) Certain of Bradenton, FL; step-son Merle E. (Tammy) of Sebring, FL; his sisters Donna S. (Mike) Thomas and Patty S. (Lloyd) Ward all of Williston, SC and Margaret S. (Daryll) Hillis of Inglis, FL and numerous grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Donald M. Schmitt and Ines Carpenter Schmitt Frank, his maternal grandparents Joseph L. and Bertha Lawson, and a special aunt Donna S. Owens.
