George Darnell

Graveside Funeral services for George William Darnell, 74, of Bamberg, SC will be held 10 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2020 at Southend Cemetery, S. Carlisle St. Bamberg, SC with the Reverend Brad Hudson Officiating.  The family has asked for memorials to be made to First Baptist Church of Bamberg, PO Box 355, Bamberg, SC 29003 or to the Alzheimer’s Association PO Box 96011, Washington DC, 20090 or www.alz.org. The family has asked that all of the retired SLED agents that attend serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Due to the current pandemic and the CDC regulations, social distancing and other guidelines will be in place. The service will be live-streamed on our Official Folk Funeral Home - Live Stream Facebook page for those unable to attend. George passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.

Born in Charleston, SC, George was a son of the late Charlie Horace Darnell and Jessie Marie Tant Darnell. In 1976 he joined and served in the SC National Guard. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bamberg and was a graduate of the SC Criminal Justice Academy. He retired from SLED as a Senior Special Agent. He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, especially his loving wife of 56 years, Brenda Joyce Dalton Darnell. Anyone who knew George knew that he loved his Snapper lawn mower.

Survivors include his loving wife, Brenda Dalton Darnell of the home; daughters Lindy (Kyle) Smith, Melissa Darnell and Michelle (Steve) Chandler; a sister Betty Jean Boyette; a brother Mike (Debra) Darnell; grandchildren Cory (Sydney) Dantzler, Dylan Smith, Skylar Smith, Caitlin Layden, Rachel Layden, Laurel Brookes Chandler, Madeline Chandler and Jesse Chandler.

He was preceded in death by a son George W. Darnell, Jr. and his brothers, James E. Darnell and Charles L. Darnell.

The Family would like to thank Stacey and Larry Long for their love and support over the years, the SLED family for the outpouring of love they have shown, all of the caregivers and nurses at Azaleawoods Senior Care and to Caris Hospice for all they have done for them.
