Gary Cheek, Jr.

Funeral services for Gary Scott Cheek, Jr., 36, of Hilda, SC will be held at two o’clock p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverends Timmy Gunnells and Anthony Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hilda, SC.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from six to eight p.m. at the funeral home in Williston and all other times at the home in Hilda, SC.  Gary passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta Ga after a sudden illness.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Dusty Carroll, Josh Carroll, A.V. Collum, Zach Counts, Sam Grubbs, Chris Holland, Kevin Murphy, and Brice Smith. 

Born in Bamberg, SC he was a son of Gary Scott “Scotty” Cheek, Sr. and Patricia “Patty” Renee Hartzog Cheek. He was employed by Still Farms, Denmark, SC. Gary loved the great outdoors, he especially enjoyed “catch and release” hunting and fishing and would often come home with nothing to cook. He also enjoyed running heavy equipment, trackhoes, big trucks and most any tractor. He was a people person who never met a stranger and could always make you laugh.

Survivors include his parents of the home, Scotty and Patty Cheek; a brother, Derrick Cheek of Hilda and Andrew Hartzog of Hilda; maternal grandmother, Janice Hartzog; paternal grandparents, John Scott Cheek and Mary Ellen Cheek and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is predeceased in death by his maternal grandfather Pat Hartzog.
