Essie (Brown) Salley

Funeral services for Essie Brown Salley, 92, of Springfield, SC will be held at three o’clock p.m., Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverend Henry Cooper officiating; burial will follow in the Springfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday. Essie passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Rusty Williams for all of the love and care shown to Mrs. Essie over the years.

Born in Orangeburg County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Rhett L. Brown and Nellie Bailey Brown and was married to the late Charles L. Salley, Sr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Springfield and was a homemaker. She loved working and tending to her yards. She also enjoyed shopping for clothes and often times just enjoyed spending the time looking around while shopping.

Survivors include her daughters, Jennie S. (Mackey) Martin of Neeses, SC and Susan S. (Jeff) Edgemon of Salley, SC; a son, Charles L. "C.L." (Shirley) Salley of Springfield, SC;  sisters, Jetter Gleaton and Nellie Rae (Robert) Romanstine; grandchildren, Regina (T.J.) Chaudoin, Roxane (Richard) Wilson, Rustie Lynne Owens, Brock (Emily) Salley, Cody (Courtney) Williams, and Eric (Brooke) Cooper, and numerous great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Charles Salley, Sr., she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry S. Cooper; grandson, Jonathan Shugerts; great grandson, Robert Shugerts; sisters Eloise Gleaton Beatty and Dessie Rea Brown Williams; brothers, Arthur, Harvey, Graddy and Rhett “R.L.” Brown.
