Emmett Chavis, 59, of Barnwell, SC passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2020. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be in Mr. Emmett’s memory to Folk Funeral Home, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853.
Born in Barnwell County, SC, he was a son of the late William Joseph Chavis and Lottie Mae New Chavis. He was a member of Lighthouse Full Gospel Mission and was a truck driver having worked in the forestry and logging industry. Emmett was married for many years to Elizabeth Banks Chavis; he loved his animals, loved to hunt and fish. Emmett was a friend to everyone who knew him; he was a genuinely good person.
Survivors include his step-daughter Shawnette (Bryan) Cash of Leesville and a step-son Wayne (Melody) Staples of Hilda; two grandchildren; his sisters, Alice Faye (Frank) Owens of Blackville, Caroline (Bobby Gene) Hutson of Blackville, Betty Jo Anders of Anderson, Delma Sanders of Olar and Cheryl Williams of Barnwell; brothers Frank (Patsy) Chavis of Blackville, David Chavis of Bamberg and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Reba Moore and Wilma Mae New and his brothers Ben Chavis, Oliver “Danny Boy” Chavis, and Jerry Chavis.
