Born in Aiken, SC, he was a son of the late Charles Tillman Kinard, Sr. and Sarah Shumpert Kinard. As a graduate of Dreher High School in 1960, he went on to further his education at North Greenville College where he majored in Psychology. Corporal Douglas H. Kinard proudly served 6 years in the U.S Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he worked in plumbing and as a supply-man. Doug lived the majority of his adult life surrounded by family in West Columbia, and spent his last 7 years in Springfield, SC.
After his time of service, Doug held many jobs as he was a jack-of-all trades. He worked at Life of Georgia Insurance, Glidden Paint Company, and Central Electric Company as well as worked construction alongside his brother. He worked handy-man jobs and retired from South Carolina Vocational-Rehabilitation as a maintenance man. Doug was a member of the Capital City Street Vans, Lexington Wildlife Club, and served one term on Springfield Town Council.
Using his self-taught skills, he could improvise and repair anything. Doug enjoyed building, repairing, and restoring things in his backyard shop. He also enjoyed fishing. Most of all, Doug loved to tell jokes and make others laugh.
Doug is survived by his wife of 37 years, Donna Spigner Kinard; his children, Becky (Tracey) Brown of Elgin, SC; Hamilton (Britnee) Kinard of Richmond Hill, GA; Susan (Dennis) Dakes of Rock Hill, SC; Joe (Diana) Bass of Frederick, MD; Cary (Michael) Bass-Dechénes of Richmond, CA; and Chris (Helen) Bass of Savannah, GA. He's also survived by his twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah Kinard Black; and numerous nieces and nephews.
