A Celebration of Life Service for Denton Slaughter Ussery, Sr. 90, of Blackville, SC will be held at two o’clock p.m., Thursday, December 19, 2024 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with Dr. Tom Terry and Reverend Chris Furtick and Masonic Rites Accorded. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be given in Mr. Denton’s memory to the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, 810 Maxwell Ave., Greenwood, SC 29648 or to the charity of one’s choice. Mr. Denton passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
Born in Elko, SC, he was a son of the late Emory Leon Ussery and Pura Still Ussery and was married to the late Peggy Grubbs Ussery for 62 years. He spent most of his life in Blackville, SC and was a Mason for over 60 years. He previously worked at Dayco in Williston and Shuron in Barnwell and also enjoyed farming for many years. He was recently a member of Cameron Baptist Church and was a former member of Double Pond Baptist Church. Mr. Denton served in the S.C. National Guard.
Survivors include his daughter, Mitzi (Mickey) Weeks of Cameron, SC; his son, Dent (Reneé) Ussery, Jr. of Columbia; grandchildren, Michael (Neilly) Weeks, Matthew (Elizabeth Allen) Weeks, Annabelle Ussery, Camille Ussery, and Lillah Ussery; great grandchildren, Croft Weeks and Mills Weeks; nephews, Derek Sanders and Keith Sanders.
In addition to his wife, Peggy, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Ussery Sanders and a brother, Henry Leon Ussery.
