A Celebration of Life Service for David Ray Yelton, 78, of Williston, SC will be held at three o’clock p.m., Monday, September 9, 2024 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverend Jamie Wootten officiating. Burial will follow at the Williston Cemetery with Mason Rites Accorded. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. David passed away at home on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
Born in Burnsville, NC, he was a son of Lee Everette Yelton and Eddith “Eddie” Penland Yelton. His family relocated to Williston, SC when he was very young. He was a lifetime member of Winfield Heights Baptist Church and was a member of Hope Masonic Lodge # 126. He attended North Greenville Junior College and retired from Southern Bell after 25 years. He later worked for Verizon for an additional 11 years. Anyone who knew David knew that he loved gambling and golfing. He hosted his friends on a weekly basis for a friendly game of cards and you could often find him at the Williston Country Club playing golf. He also loved fishing and hunting. David loved his son Dean, and his grandchildren. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Tara Yelton; a grandson, Brice Yelton; granddaughters, Reese and Natalie Yelton; sister-in-law, Buff Yelton; a nephew Michael Lee (Elysia) Yelton, Jr. all of Edisto Island, SC and a niece Lisa (Brett) Evans of Aiken.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Lee “Mickey” Yelton, James Sidney “Sid” Yelton and Rodney Duane “Rod” Yelton.
