Dan J Ligon

Daniel Jackson Ligon, 78, of Blackville, SC passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease.  Mr. Ligon was born on September 30, 1946, in Hickory, NC to the late Wilhelmina Jackson Ligon and Dan H. Ligon.  He was baptized in the Episcopal Church in April of 1947.  He was raised in a large, loving family and spent his carefree youth in the Hickory, North Carolina area.  He contracted polio as a child which helped him develop an indomitable human spirit.  He would go on to graduate from George Washington University with a master’s in business administration in September of 1970.  Dan owned several businesses throughout his adult life, Ligon and Associates, Southern Craftsman Construction was the one he was most proud of.  Through this business he worked to effect change in rural America and in cities hard hit by poverty and crime.  Dan was a consummate dreamer, always dreaming the impossible dream while holding a firm belief they would all come true.  Although he had no children of his own, he had close friends that were his family.  Dan loved to travel, he loved art and music, he loved the art of story telling and he loved to enjoy a good meal and laughter with his friends. 

Dan is survived by his fiancé Sharon Ungemach of Charleston, his two stepdaughters Pamela Schlosser and Stephanie Duncan.  Dan is also survived by his caretaker and close friend Marlene McCario-Baglin of Barnwell, SC as well as her children CJ Sims, John Ray “Trey” Mosley, Leslie Lynn Hilliard of Texas and Evangeline Mitchell of Barnwell, SC.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Town of Blackville, SC or the Blackville Community Development Corporation (CDC), Attention Mayor Pernell 5983 Lartigue St. Blackville, SC 29817.

A celebration of life will be held a later date.
