Funeral services for Ottie Clifford Nix, Sr. 92, of Lexington, SC will be held at eleven o’clock a.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Broadacres Baptist Church, 2350 Taylors Rd., Cayce, SC with the Reverend Shane McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in the Williston Cemetery, 2600 Lake Dr., Williston, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be held 2 o’clock pm at the Williston Cemetery, 2600 Lake Dr. Williston, SC 29853. Memorial contributions may be given to SEA Place Non-Profit, 220 Peach Place Ct., Gilbert, SC 29054 or the Williston Cemetery, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853. Clifford passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
Born in Barnwell County, SC he was a son of the late Ottie Breland Nix and Corrie Mae Chitty Nix and was married to the late Mary Claire Dukes Nix for 62 years. He retired as the Assistant Director of the School Bus Transportation Department for the State of S.C. While living in Elko, SC, he served as the town mayor for several years and also served as a deacon at Elko Baptist Church. After moving to Cayce, SC in 1969, he was a member of Broadacres Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board and served in many other capacities at the church for many years. He was family oriented and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Clifford also enjoyed spending time with his brother, Russell at Whittle Motor Company, Williston, SC. After Russell’s passing Clifford continued to help his niece and nephew at Whittle Motor Company for many years. He was a long-time member of the Gamecock Club and Woodman of the World. He served in the U. S. Army as a Cryptographer Specialist.
Survivors include his daughter, Connie Nix Dorsey of Lexington, SC; a son, John Clifford (Dru McPherson) Nix of Gilbert, SC; grandchildren, Megan Claire Dorsey of Lexington, SC, Joseph (Chyanne) McArthur Nix of WI, and Philip John Nix of Charleston, SC; a great-granddaughter, Kaylie Rose Nix; sisters, Joyce Baxley of Beech Island, SC; brothers, John (Sandra) Nix of North Charleston, SC, David “D.K.” (Carolyn) Nix of Wilmington, NC and Gene (Nell) Nix of Elko, SC; sister-in-law, Virginia “Ginny” Nix of Williston, SC and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Claire Dukes Nix; a son, Ottie Clifford Nix, Jr; a sister, Effie Mae Nix Delk and a brother, Russell W. Nix.
