Charles Fredric Barnes, 78, of Denmark, SC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Funeral services will be held for Charles at two-thirty p.m., Sunday, January 15, 2023 with Dr. Matt Thomas and Reverend John O’Cain officiating. Burial will follow at the Denmark Cemetery with Military Honors Accorded and Dr. Andy Hunter officiating. The family wishes to have past and present RA leaders and former RA members of Denmark First Baptist Church to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Denmark First Baptist Church, c/o Meals on Wheels, P.O. Charles was born in Denmark, SC, to the late Earl David Barnes and Gladys Deer Barnes. He was a member of the Denmark First Baptist Church where he was very active in many different capacities in the church. He served as a deacon, taught RA’s, and loved to sing and was a member of the Ed Chitty Sunday School Class. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and shrimping and enjoyed spending time with his family. He previously worked at Milliken as a trainer for 25 years and then retired from Savannah River Site. Charles was always willing to give Christ all of the glory; he never wanted to bring attention to himself. He served in the U.S. Army and in the U.S. Army Reserve. While serving in active duty he served in Korea.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Cynthia Faye Truesdale Barnes; a son, Ricky (Amanda) Barnes of Pelion, SC; a daughter, Terri (Steven) Watson of Aiken, SC; his grandchildren, Hannah Watson, Rebecca Watson, Caroline Barnes, Abigail Watson, and Nathan Barnes; a brother, Robert Barnes; a brother-in-law, Jerry Kelly; sisters-in-law, Stephanie Brooks of Staunton, VA and Sandra Truesdale of Georgetown, SC; a number of nieces and nephews, and his loyal companion, Max.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Stephen and Corinthia Truesdale and his brother-in-law, Steve Truesdale.
