Funeral services for Brenda Joyce Brady Steadman, 77, of Williston, SC will be held 5 p.m. Friday August 4, 2023 at the Williston First Baptist Church with the Reverends Jeremiah Land and Rodney Bodiford officiating. Burial will follow in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Folk Funeral Home, Williston, SC. Memorials may be sent to Press Church, P.O. Box 294, Williston, SC 29853 or to the Williston Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 367, Williston, SC 29853. Brenda passed away at home surrounded by her children on Monday, July 31, 2023.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are William Shipes, II, Justin Steadman, Jr., Trevor Steadman, Bryce Mulligan, Lonnie Westbrook, Chris Boehnke, Patrick Halcomb and Cody McCollum.
Born in Richmond, Virginia she was a daughter of the late James Thomas Brady and Berlene James Brady and was married to the late James Earl “Jimmy” Steadman, Jr. for 43 years until his passing in 2009. Brenda started her career as a teacher’s aide then later worked as an Administrative Assistant and retired as the school’s Food Service Coordinator after 25 years of service to the Williston School District # 29. She answered God’s call to serve as Minister of Music, Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader at numerous churches in Barnwell and Orangeburg Counties. She was a member of Press Church in Williston where she taught Sunday school and served doing various children ministries. She loved her home at Steadman Farms, she enjoyed cooking for her family and hunters on Saturday and enjoyed working in the yards and taking care of all her animals.
Survivors include her children, Janice (Robbie) Shipes of Williston, Jena (Alan) Mulligan of Williston, Jacqueline (Jose) Matias of North Augusta, and Justin Steadman of Barnwell; her grandchildren, William Shipes, II, Brittany (Chris) Boehnke, Justin (Madison) Steadman, Jr., Dr. Virginia Berlene Shipes and her husband Scott Howard, Mikayla (Patrick) Halcomb, Brooke (Cody) McCollum, Trevor Steadman, Bryce Mulligan and Gabriella Matias; a great grandson, Gabriel Penley; her siblings, Buddy Brady, Sandra Shawn, and Billy Brady; a sister-in-law, Deborah Westbrook; brothers-in-law, Robert (Elaine) Steadman and Van (Barbara) Steadman; numerous nieces and nephews and her Loyal Companion “Scout Steadman”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James, Sr. and Virginia Steadman; sisters-in-law, Shelby Coleman and Marian Brady; brothers-in-law, Henry Steadman, Cleo Shawn, Thad Coleman and Terry Westbrook.
